Harvey Bryant
Durham, NC: Musician & Artist
Durham based multi-instrumentalist and multidisciplinary artist, Harvey Bryant, takes a multifaceted approach to things. In his 40+ years of playing music Harvey has enjoyed moving between genres. His playing style incorporates the improvisational techniques of Jazz with the influence of Spanish Classical Guitar that he studied in the 80’s and 90’s, as well as the rock, pop, funk (and sometimes even country) that he played in local bands through the 80’s, 90’s and early 00’s.
Harvey’s main instrument is guitar, but he plays bass, percussion and is learning violin/viola and keyboards. He is an avid listener and says a good playlist is one that can jump from Mozart to Mariah Carey, Bob Dylan to Bob Marley, and Paul Simon to Parliament Funkadelic.
Harvey’s artwork began with photography and sculptural furniture design in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Over time, he has expanded into metalwork, sculpture and stained glass. You can view his art portfolio in the gallery section of this website.
After getting married and starting a family in the early 2000s, Harvey took some time off from playing in public. During that time off he worked on improving his music skills as well as his artistic abilities. He added studio recording and producing as well as metal work, welding, and stained glass to his skill set during this “down time”.
Harvey released a two-song “single” (“Chonk” and “Sean & Katie’s Shuffle”) in June of 2021 and a seven-song album, “Latin Blue” in 2022. Harvey played all the instruments and produced both releases. Harvey is currently working on a new album with a projected release date of late 2023 or early 2024, and continues to produce new artwork as well.
