On April 25th, I proudly sponsored the Va. Beach Police Dept/FOP Lodge #8 team in the 14th annual Pistol Match among a multitude of law enforcement agencies at Blackwater USA, N.C. Earlier in the year, under the instruction of some of the VBPD team members, almost 30 of my attorneys and I qualified and were certified at Blackwater to carry concealed and shoot handguns. When our legislature granted us the authority to carry concealed weapons without a permit, and to have the powers of arrest as conservators of the peace, I required all assistants wishing to carry concealed weapons to undergo 16 hrs of training during which we fired over 500 rounds per person. Though not even close to the expertise our VBPD/FOP team displayed we learned a lot and had a lot of fun. To the chagrin of the male prosecutors, the highest scores were recorded by the least weapon experinced female prosecutors in each class! When I got back from Camp Rudder this week, the T-shirts shown in the photo gallery were waiting for me in my office. I will wear them proudly.
