June 16

I got another in-depth tour of the “new” jail by Sheriff Paul Lanteigne today. What a state of the art facilty he has developed and supervises so well. It’s a secure self-contained “little city” running 24×7.

This afternoon was the dedication of Volunteer Garden Gazebo behind City Hall. Volunteerism is essential in Va. Beach, saving the city literally millions of dollars each year. Thanks to Mary Russo and the Office of Volunteer Resources. My office has recruited 7 volunteers, 6 of which are law students working 40 hours a week this summer helping out my 6 trial teams. They do research, write briefs and handle some cases under rules in  Virginia that allow those ready to begin their last year of law school to do so. The garden and gazebo were  long term city goals and current and former city council members joined in the dedication today.

This evening was a civic league meeting and then on to meet with some folks assisting with my campaign.
