Commonwealth’s Attorney Harvey Bryant attended a joint press conference held by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, AAA, and Delegate Sal Iaquinto on June 29, 2012 at the Fountain Plaza at Town Center in Virginia Beach. Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Chris Baker and Public Information Officer Macie Pridgen were in attendance, along with members of the Virginia State Police, Virginia Beach Police Department, and Norfolk Police Department. The focus of the press conference was to highlight the new Ignition Interlock law that went into effect on July 1, 2012. The new law requires that any defendant convicted of DUI, even those convicted of their first offense, will be required to have an ignition interlock device installed in their vehicle for six (6) months at their expense. The Virginian Pilot, WAVY-10, WVEC-13, and WTKR-3 were in attendance and interviewed Bryant about the importance of the new law.
