July 4: Independence Day Events

It was great to be with so many Va. Beach folks celebrating our 233 years of freedom and self government in different ways today. My wife and I joined in the Filipino community’s Friendship Day at Redwing Park in the morning marching in the traditional parade in support of the election of state and local Republicans. Thanks to Councilman Ron Villaneuva for giving me the chance to address the wonderful crowd. As always, a lot of fun activities and great food were enjoyed.

From there we headed to the Fairfield Forest neighborhood 4th of July bike parade. Adults and children went all out creatively decorating their bikes in patriotic themes. Thanks to the Beyrodt family for overseeing the organization of the event and to the Schindler family for loaning me a bike for part of the parade!

By 6 p.m., it was on to Mount Trashmore to meet and great lots of happy folks with candidate for Governor Bob McDonnell, House of Delegates candidate Chris Stolle, and Councilwoman Rosemary Wilson. The weather, the occasion, and the free fireworks display made a perfect atmosphere for the National Birthday celebration. We can be very proud of our city for providing such opportunities for our citizens to enjoy together!
