August 8, 2012: Signing of Ignition Interlock Bill

Harvey Bryant attended Governor Bob McDonnell’s signing of the “ignition interlock” bill on August 8, 2012, at the Virginia Beach Fire and EMS Training Center. The new legislation, which went into effect July 1, 2012, requires all drivers convicted of DUI to use an ignition interlock device. This equipment requires the driver to complete a breath test, and if any alcohol is detected their car will not start. Bryant supported this bill, sponsored by Delegate Sal Iaquinto. Those in attendance with Bryant for the ceremonial signing included Delegate Iaquinto, Councilwoman Rosemary Wilson, Councilman Glenn Davis, Fire Chief Steve Cover, and other members of local law enforcement agencies and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
