August 12: Addressing Citizen and Police concerns about availability of lab tech’s testimony for criminal cases

Harvey was well received Wednesday night at the 2nd Precinct Citizen’s Advisory Comm. Among other topics, he addressed the concerns of  the Governor, prosecutors and legislators across the state regarding the detrimental effects a U.S. Supreme Court decision is having on the prosecution of drug and DUI cases and even cases of failure to register as a sex offender. VBPD Lt. Dave Squires echoed the concerns of the police department over the problems the case has created. Representatives from the  many neighborhoods represented expressed appreciation that the Governor, at the urging of the Va. Association of Commonwealth’s Attorneys, is taking the rare step of calling a special session, set for next week to address the issue with legislation. ” Only someone with no understanding of the dynamics of the issue  would fail to see the problem” Harvey told them. He also thanked the local TV channel that  highlighted the issue on tonight’s news.
