Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that five paralegals from his office in Virginia Beach will serve on the Tidewater Paralegal Association’s 2009-2010 board. These include Jodie Turner, President; Charlene Powell, 2nd Vice President; and Kristina Hopkins, Treasurer. Additionally, the following paralegals were appointed: Jaye Koch, Director; and Connie Gaylor, Venue Chair and Newsletter Chair. The board also includes a paralegal from the Suffolk Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney and two paralegals from local law firms. They were elected September 8, 2009 at the TPA’s annual business meeting.
The Tidewater Paralegal Association currently has 86 members, the majority of which are from private law firms. Membership consists of paralegals, legal assistants, legal professionals and educators.
“One of TPA’s greatest strengths is the diversity of its members. We have paralegals from nearly every legal specialty. The composition of the board this year provides a unique perspective for the organization and, I hope, will attract more government employed paralegals to our group,” Jodie Turner said.
“TPA is a great organization. I’m very proud, but not surprised, to see our paralegals being elected to leadership positions,” Bryant said.
Established in April 1984, Tidewater Paralegal Association is a non-profit organization whose goals are professional recognition and continuing education in the legal field. They offer legal education programs for paralegals and legal assistants as well as the opportunity for members to share their professional experiences and interests.
