Release Date: Monday, April 19, 2010 5:50 p.m.

Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Michael Earl Dannenberg, 52 years old, previously residing in the 2000 block of Munden Point Road, Virginia 23454, was sentenced today by Circuit Court Judge William R. O’Brien to a total of forty (40) years in the Virginia Penetentiary for charges of Forcible Sodomy (victim under age of thirteen) and Sexual Penetration with Inanimate Object (victim under age of thirteen). The Court suspended all but twelve (12) years and ten (10) months of said sentence conditioned upon forty (40) years good behavior, indefinte supervised probation and registration with the Sexual Offender Registry. Dannenberg pled guilty to these charges on September 21, 2009.

Had this matter gone to trial, the Commonwealth’s evidence would have proved that on March 28, 2009, Dannenberg sexually abused a four year old female. The victim’s mother contacted Child Protective Services after her daughter disclosed disturbing details of sexual abuse to her. On April 24, 2009, the case was referred to the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Special Victims Unit. When Dannenberg was interviewed on April 26, 2009 by Virginia Beach Police, he made a full confession.

Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Scott C. Vachris prosecuted this case. Please call Julie Pickell if additional information is desired.
