Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced that a grand jury meeting in Virginia Beach Circuit Court today returned indictments against 47 individuals charging 113 offenses.
Investigators for the Virginia Beach Department of Human Services presented indictments against 5 individuals involving welfare fraud. These offenses carry up to 20 years in the penitentiary and a fine of $2,500. Those individuals are:

Bernard Russell Langley Jr, of the 1000 block of Hunting Hill Lane, was indicted for a total of 13 charges, including Abduction (3 counts), Robbery with the Use of a Gun (2 counts), Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (5 counts), and 1 count each of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Wearing a Mask in Public, and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony. The alleged offenses occurred at a residence in the 900 block of Newtown Road on October 6, 2009.
The grand jury returned indictments against jail inmate Jamel Rhashand Knight-Funches, for a total of 5 felony offenses, including Indecent Exposure-3rd Offense (4 counts) and Tampering or Damaging a Fire Protection/Suppression System. Each of the independent alleged offenses occurred from April 3 to May 31, 2010, while Knight-Funches has been in custody for his third probation violation.
The remaining indictments charged a broad range of criminal offenses from rape, custodial indecent liberties, forcible sodomy, abduction with the intent to defile, assault on a law enforcement officer, robbery, malicious wounding, burglary, grand larceny, and arson. Indictments were returned against 10 individuals for felony drug offenses.
