Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced that a Special Grand Jury meeting in Virginia Beach Circuit Court today returned indictments against Karen Yvonne Watkins, 23 years old, of the 600 block of Jefferson Street in Portsmouth, Virginia, and Latasha Kiana Boyd, 22 years old, of the 5800 block of Westerwald Place in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Each of the individuals indicted is charged with one count each of Embezzlement, Money Laundering, and Virginia Income Tax Evasion. The alleged offenses, which were investigated thoroughly by the Virginia Beach Police Department with the assistance of the Virginia State Police, occurred between January 1, 2009 and October 31, 2009 while Watkins and Boyd were employed at Hampton Roads Transit (HRT). These offenses carry up to 70 years in the penitentiary.
