Virginia Beach Victim Witness Program celebrates 30 years!
Minor Thomas began this one person program in 1979. Since then, this office has grown tremendously. We now have 10 full time employees that have personally assisted over 4,000 victims of violent crime this past year. In 2008, this office provided notification about court dates, prosecutors and caseworker information as well as informational pamphlets to more than 9,000 victims and witnesses of crime. We have collected and returned over $1,000,000.00 in restitution and monitor over 6,000 payments by court ordered defendants. We coordinated over 250 travel requests for victims and witnesses. This is just the tip of services this office provides. We hope to continue to be able to provide these services in the future with the support of City, State and Federal funds.
