Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach addressed the newly formed Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni last night at their monthly meeting. The event took place at the Virginia Beach Law Enforcement Training Academy and was hosted by Master Police Officer Jeff Eaton, Police Liaison to the CPA Alumni Association and CPA coordinator. “We are currently holding our 29th class,” Eaton said.
The CPA Alumni is comprised of 40 members who have attended a session of the Virginia Beach Citizen’s Police Academy. Over 900 citizens have attended the CPA since its creation in 1996. The CPA’s main purpose is to provide its members with continuing education through monthly meetings and guest speakers who teach current trends in police work and in crime. In addition, the CPA members assist the VBPD by performing volunteer work in units throughout the department.
Bryant has given a block of instruction in all but one of the academies over the last 10 years.
“I enjoy teaching the CPA and explaining the important working relationship between my office, the Police Department and our citizens and how we prosecute cases. It was an honor to address the CPA Alumni Association at this month’s meeting. The cooperation between my office and the Police Department is essential in the fight against crime. I found the members’ community involvement and the service they provide to the VBPD particularly impressive,” Bryant said.
