Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Jahlil Joel Wiley, 22 years old, previously residing in the 1300 block of West 25th Street, Norfolk, Virginia, pled guilty to Abduction (3 counts), Robbery of a Business (3 counts), Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (3 counts), Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Robbery (3 counts), Firearm Possession by a Violent Felon and Sexual Battery. The Honorable H. Thomas Padrick sentenced Wiley to a total of sixty-three (63) years, twelve (12) months in the Virginia Penitentiary. Twenty-four (24) years were suspended conditioned upon sixty-four (64) years good behavior and supervised probation and no contact with the victims, leaving him thirty-nine (39) years and twelve (12) months to serve.
Had this matter gone to trial, the Commonwealth’s evidence would have proved that at around noon on November 3, 2008, an employee of Advanced America located at 2052 S. Independence Boulevard in Virginia Beach was robbed at gunpoint.
A month later, on December 3, 2008, an employee of Advanced America located at 1615 General Booth Boulevard in Virginia Beach was robbed at gunpoint.
On December 9, 2008 at nine o’ clock in the morning, an employee of Norfolk Florist located at 3322 Holland Road was robbed at gunpoint. This victim was also sexually assaulted.
Surveillance video from one of the stores the defendant had robbed was released to the news media. A citizen who saw the video recognized him and contacted the police. All three victims later identified the defendant in a photographic lineup.
Jahlil has two previous felony convictions for Robbery in the City of Norfolk in 2004 and a lengthy history of arrests in the Tidewater area.
