Commonwealth v. Sean Bava Massey; Jury Recommends 20-Year-old Masked Robber Serve 110 Years

Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Sean Bava Massey, 20 years old, previously residing in the 5500 Block of Society Court in Virginia Beach, was found guilty by a jury in the Virginia Beach Circuit Court. The jury found the defendant guilty of Malicious Wounding, Robbery, Conspiracy, two counts of Using a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony and Wearing a Mask in Public. The jury recommended a total sentence of 110 years and a $50,000 fine. Judge H. Thomas Padrick will formally sentence the defendant on August 12, 2009.

At the jury trial, the Commonwealth’s evidence proved that on April 26, 2007, the defendant and his co-conspirator robbed a juvenile at gunpoint. During the robbery, the defendant and his partner in crime wore masks. The victim was shot while attempting to fend off his attackers.

Massey was previously found guilty to charges stemming from similar robberies that took place in Virginia Beach. These charges included: two (2) counts of Abduction, five (5) counts of Robbery, one (1) count of Attempted Robbery, six (6) counts of Using a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, one (1) count of Attempted Carjacking, three (3) count of conspiracy, and three (3) count of Wearing a Mask in Public.

The defendant’s partner in crime, Hobbs, was sentenced to serve twenty-eight (28) years on similar charges on July 28, 2008 in Virginia Beach Circuit Court.
