Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Steven Lamar Jackson, 29 years old, previously residing in the 1000 block of Berkley Avenue in Norfolk, was found guilty by a jury of one (1) count of 1st Degree Murder, one (1) count of Robbery, one (1) count of Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, and one (1) count of Use of a Firearm in a felony at the conclusion of a five-day jury trial presided over by Circuit Court Judge Patricia L. West. Today, the jury recommended a sentence of thirty-one (31) years to be served in the Virginia Department of Corrections and Judge West formally approved this sentence.

Jackson, Rogers, and another went up to Charles Barnes room, and when Barnes answered his door, Jackson pulled out a gun. A struggle ensued between Jackson and Barnes during which Barnes was shot. After Jackson shot Barnes in the doorway, he proceeded to shoot Barnes additional times, one of which was a fatal shot to the head.
Jackson is a currently awaiting sentencing on a charge of Possession with the Intent to Distribute a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance which he pled guilty to on April 28, 2009. He also violated his probation on previous charges of Eluding Police, Hit and Run, Driving on Suspended Operator’s License, and Contempt of Court which he was found guilty of in July 2002. In 1998, Jackson was convicted in Chesapeake Circuit Court of Receiving Stolen Property and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
