Commonwealth v. Huffman; Sunday School Teacher Sentenced to 50 Years for Molestation

Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Shea Ryan Huffman, 19 years old, previously residing in the 5200 block of Lowery Downs, Virginia Beach, VA 23464, was sentenced today by Circuit Court Judge Edward W. Hanson, Jr. to a total of two hundred eighty (280) years in the Virginia Penitentiary with two hundred thirty (230) years suspended leaving fifty (50) years to serve. The sentencing guidelines range from twenty-five (25) to forty (40) years. Huffman will be on supervised probation for life when released. Judge Hanson remarked that he could not remember a worse case.

The Commonwealth’s evidence proved that between the dates of November, 2008 through June 2009, Huffman worked as a Sunday school teacher at the Calvary Assembly of God Church, located on Providence Road in the city of Virginia Beach. As part of his duties, Huffman would take some of the male students to the bathroom. All of the victims were either 4 or 5 years old during this time period. On June 18, 2009, one of the victims disclosed to his parents that Huffman had sexually abused him. On June 19, 2009 Huffman was arrested and made a full confession to sexually abusing several boys. Physical evidence was recovered from the defendant’s computer including photographs and videos of the victims.
