Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Glenn Antoine Harrison, 28 years old, previously residing in the 3500 block of Brannon Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia, was found guilty by a jury of one (1) count of Murder in the first degree and one (1) count of Robbery. Harrison was sentenced to life imprisonment plus 25 years. The Honorable H. Thomas Padrick presided over the trial.
The Commonwealth’s evidence proved that on May 24, 2007, the victim Angela Spain, a nurse, did not arrive to work as scheduled for her night shift. Concerned co-workers arrived at her residence and observed that Angela’s vehicle was still parked in the parking lot.
After numerous attempts to contact her by phone, yelling up to her and knocking on the door, they entered the residence. Once inside, they observed blood on the carpet, leading upstairs to a bathroom where they found Angela deceased in the bathtub. An autopsy revealed that Angela had been stabbed multiple times and had died of drowning.
The Commonwealth’s evidence proved that the victim’s struggle with the defendant ensued in the kitchen and after being stabbed multiple times, was placed in the bathtub. A bloody palm print was recovered from the top of a paper towel holder and was found to match the defendant. During the investigation, a surveillance photo was recovered showing the defendant withdrawing money from Spain’s account. On May 30, 2007, Glenn Harrison was arrested by Virginia Beach police. At that time he stated that “he knew the victim but had not been in the apartment for three to four months.”
The defendant had a prior criminal record which consisted of three convictions of making terroristic threats, Burglary and Destruction of Property in 2002, and a misdemeanor charge of Escape from Custody.
Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Philip C. Hollowell and Senior Assistant Gordon Ufkes prosecuted the case. Please call Amanda Herman if additional information is desired.
