Commonwealth v. Frick; Jury Finds EMT Guilty of Child Sexual Abuse, Sets Sentence at 17 Years

Release Date: Wednesday, April 28, 2010 5:30 p.m.

Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Steven Mark Frick, 43 years old, previously residing in the 2400 block of Litchfield Way, Virginia Beach, VA, was convicted by a jury on one (1) count of forcible sodomy, two (2) counts of aggravated sexual battery and two (2) counts of object sexual penetration, all to someone under the age of thirteen. The jury recommended a sentence of seventeen (17) years in the Virginia Penitentiary. Judge H. Thomas Padrick, Jr., who presided over the trial, sentenced Frick to the jury’s recommendation. Frick must also register with the Sexual Offender Registry when released from prison.

The Commonwealth’s evidence proved that between the dates of February 1, 2009 through September 15, 2009, Frick sexually abused a ten year old girl. On September 16, 2009, the victim’s mother contacted the Virginia Beach Police Department and Child Protective Services after her daughter disclosed details of the sexual abuse to her. Frick was interviewed by Virginia Beach Detective L. J. Geluso, and made a full confession. He also wrote an apology letter to the victim. However, at the trial Frick testified that he did not tell the truth when he spoke with the detective and that the girl’s claims were also false.
