Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Donnell Donmonic Norfleet, 22 years old, previously residing in the 800 block of Marietta Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia, was sentenced today by Circuit Court Judge Patricia L. West to 60 years in the Virginia Department of Corrections on convictions of Robbery (two counts), Use of a Firearm (2 counts), Conspiracy (2 counts), and one count each Abduction and Attempted Robbery. The Court suspended 49 years of the sentence conditioned upon 60 years good behavior, supervised probation and payment of court costs.

The Commonwealth’s evidence proved that on May 3, 2009, the defendant and two other men drove down Piping Rock Road in the City of Virginia Beach. Two brothers were walking to their parents’ home when they were stopped and robbed by the defendant. The defendant pointed a gun at the brothers and demanded their property. One of the victims handed over his wallet and the defendant drove away. Later that night, the defendant and his two friends drove to Sedley Road in Virginia Beach. The defendant approached a man who was outside talking on his cell phone. The defendant pointed a gun at him and told him to get on the ground. The defendant took his wallet, cell phone and ring. The defendant then ran to an awaiting car and drove away.

Within twenty minutes of the second robbery the defendant’s vehicle was stopped by Virginia Beach Police on South Independence Boulevard. Two firearms were located inside the vehicle as well as two wallets belonging to the two victims.

The defendant’s prior record includes one conviction for Failure to Appear.

Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Kristin L. Paulding prosecuted the case. Please call Macie Pridgen if additional information is desired.
