Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Christina Michelle Mitchell, 28 years old, who previously resided in the 5300 block of Justin Court, Virginia Beach, Virginia, was sentenced today by Circuit Court Judge A. Joseph Canada, on three (3) counts of Robbery. Judge Canada ordered the defendant to serve twenty-five (25) years on each charge, for a total of seventy-five (75) years in the Virginia Department of Corrections. The Court suspended sixty-five (65) years of that sentence, leaving the defendant a ten (10) year active sentence to serve.
The Commonwealth’s evidence showed that, on three separate occasions in 2009, Christina Michelle Mitchell robbed business employees at knifepoint in Virginia Beach. On March 18, Mitchell entered a Citgo Gas Station on Diamond Springs Road armed with a large kitchen knife and robbed the cashier of money from the till. On March 19 and March 21, Mitchell repeated her crimes at the Texaco Gas Station at 720 Independence Boulevard, and at the Express Check Advance at 665 Newtown Road. After the last robbery, Mitchell was caught in the vicinity of the crime scene and was taken into custody by Virginia Beach police.
Mitchell was previously employed by both the Citgo and the Express Check Advance businesses that she later robbed. She has a prior misdemeanor conviction of Embezzlement in Virginia Beach in 2007, for stealing from the same Citgo while she was employed there.
