Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced today that Bryson Santel Bailey, 19 years old, previously residing in the 5700 block of East Hastings Arch, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, pled guilty and was sentenced today by Circuit Court Judge Frederick B. Lowe to a total of forty three (43) years in the Virginia Penitentiary for Robbery, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. Thirty (30) years were suspended conditioned upon thirty (30) years good behavior and supervised probation, leaving a total of thirteen (13) years to serve.
The Commonwealth’s evidence would have proved that on December 12, 2008, the victim was at a club called Hart’s Café, where he met two women who asked him to drive them to a residence. After the victim left the residence, one of the women called asking him to return to hang out together. When the victim returned to the apartments, he got out of his car and was approached by Bailey and co-defendant Bowden. Bailey produced a handgun. The two men forced the victim to his knees with the gun to his head. He gave them his property which included his cell phone, jewelry, and wallet with his credit card. After taking his property, Bailey and his co-defendants got into the getaway car and sped off. Virginia Beach Police were notified and immediately determined the victim’s credit card had been used at a Norfolk IHOP. The Norfolk police responded and apprehended all six defendants and seized the handgun. The driver of the getaway car, Tyshawn House, was sentenced to seven (7) years to serve for his actions. Co-defendant, Michael Bowden was sentenced to thirteen (13) years. Monica Jones, Tyesha Dowdy and Ricky Jackson are pending sentencing.
Bailey has pending Robbery and Use of a Firearm charges in Norfolk.
