Release Date: Friday, December 11, 2009 5:00 p.m.

Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney Harvey Bryant has been asked to serve on Governor-elect Robert F. McDonnell’s Public Safety Transition Work Group. The Public Safety Transition Work Group will serve as a liaison to the Public Safety Secretary designate Marla Decker on behalf of and as a representative of the governor-elect. Former Attorney General Criminal Chief Marla Decker was named last week by Governor-elect McDonnell as the incoming Secretary of Public Safety.

The Public Safety Work Group is co-chaired by former Attorney Generals Jerry Kilgore and Richard Cullen.

Bryant has been asked to concentrate on three specific agencies: the Bureau of Forensic Science, the State Parole Board, and the Commonwealth’s Attorneys’ Services Council. He will be working with other members of the work group in assessing each agency and making recommendations to Secretary of Public Safety Designate Marla Decker. Meetings with the heads of these agencies commenced this week.

“Governor-elect Bob McDonnell and his choice for Public Safety Secretary Marla Decker both have some great ideas for improving the operation and efficiency of the agencies within the state’s public safety umbrella. I look forward to assisting the Governor-elect and Marla Decker in any way they deem appropriate. It is an honor to be able to assist in the enhancement of public safety in our communities and in our state,” Bryant said.
