The Virginia Beach Police Department’s Economic Crime Unit (ECU) has made Fraud Alerts and Economic Crime trends available to the public. Supervisors and detectives in the ECU felt there was a need for the public to have a place readily available on the VBPD web site to help citizens protect themselves from potential scammers and identify theft thieves.
The unit currently has three Fraud Alert warnings posted on the web site to include: Online real estate scams, Avoiding internet auction fraud, and Beware of bogus check scams, lottery checks, and fraudulent money orders. You can read these alerts online. They plan to add additional scams and related financial crime trends monthly and how to avoid them.
For additional information, please contact the Economic Crime Unit at (757) 385-4101.
