Harvey L. Bryant, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Virginia Beach, announced that a grand jury sitting yesterday in Virginia Beach Circuit Court has indicted 132 people for a variety of criminal felony offenses.
The 132 individuals indicted were charged with a total of 395 offenses. Among the offenses charged were 3 murders, 7 rape charges, 23 robberies, 40 charges of using a firearm in the commission of a felony, 2 charges of driving under the influence 4th offense, and 1 charge of driving under the influence 3rd offense. Twenty-four individuals were indicted for felony drug offenses.
“Along with the police department and our citizens, my office will continue the battle to bring those who break our laws, injure and kill our citizens to justice. Public safety is and must continue to be the number one goal of government at all levels,” Bryant said.
“No one should doubt the impact of crime in our city. We had 110 defendants on today’s Circuit Court docket alone, and were handling cases in Juvenile and General District courts also. The Court imposed limit of 125 defendants per day has already been hit for 6 days in the first two months of the year,” Bryant said.
